Overcoming Trauma

At Arches Counselling, we understand that trauma can be difficult, confusing and overwhelming. We provide a supportive and compassionate environment for each person to acknowledge their suffering, identify their hopes and develop a therapeutic plan.

At Arches Counselling, we strive to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for clients to explore their issues and develop strategies to help manage the impacts of trauma. Specific selected therapies help our clients to process the trauma, understand recurring feelings and behaviours, develop a sense of self-efficacy and move beyond surviving .

Overview of Trauma

Trauma includes a wide variety of experiences. Short-term events such as physical injury, natural disasters, sexual, physical, emotional, psychological abuse, long-term adversity such as prolonged illness, disability, poverty, or childhood neglect, abandonment, inconsistent care, Trauma can also be emotional in nature, any situation that causes the nervous system to be overwhelmed and compromises the individual’s capacity to cope can be considered a trauma.

Talking to a therapist can be an invaluable tool in helping to manage and process trauma. Through the therapeutic relationship, clients are able to safely explore and express their feelings and experiences, while developing and creating new neural pathways, calming the nervous system out of default activation and living more fully in the present. Therapists use a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities to help address the most immediate need.

Regardless of the type or cause of trauma, our team at Arches Counselling is committed to providing compassionate and effective support. We work together with each client to help them build resilience and create long-term positive change. If you’d like to learn more about which therapist would be the best match contact us.
